The idea of forming COCSAI came from Prof. Mvubu at the time when he was Chairperson of the South African Council of Churches (SACC). He saw an emptiness and turned it into an opportunity to start an ecumenical board that would cover an international platform, to preach the gospel and unite people to eradicate poverty and combat crime. He created the slogan that, "The Church must reclaim its rightful position". (MHSRIP)

Prof. Mvubu contacted Prof. Vamela and formed a union to help him establish COCSAI, based on his leadership skills, whereby at that time he was an active member of the ANC, working at Goedmoed Prison as a Spiritual Care Worker, Project Manager of Oliver Tambo Development Center, Project Manager of Many Hospices within the Free State Province- such as Putanang, Mahlaheng Hospices he was also the Deputy Chairperson of the Free State Farmers Organization. He became the first appointed Secretary General of COCSAI to lead the administrative duties for the COCSA on an international platform. Based on their involvement in global ministry they were both appointed as peace ambassadors, especially between Israel and Palestine and from thereon COCSAI formed partnerships with these two countries.
